Is Herman Cain a serious contender for the Republican presidential nomination? It’s a question no one in the pundit world was asking until the past week.
Cain has never held public office. When he ran for the Senate in Georgia in 2004, he lost the primary by a 52 percent to 26 percent margin.
He has zero experience in foreign or defense policy, where presidents have the most leeway to set policy. When questioned about the Middle East earlier this year, he clearly had no idea what the “right of return” is.
His solid performance in the Fox News/Google debate Sept. 22 didn’t get pundits to take his chances seriously. Read the rest of this entry »

Wisconsin Republicans Defeat Unions…Again
Madison, Wisconsin. A stand by Wisconsin Republicans against a massive effort to oust them from power could reverberate across the country as the battle over union rights and the conservative revolution heads toward the 2012 presidential race.
Democrats succeeded in taking two Wisconsin state Senate seats away from Read the rest of this entry »

Union boss Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO already feels like he bought this President, along with most of the Democrats in the House and Senate. He is also keenly aware that Barack Obama and the leadership of the Democratic Party expect him, and his union brethren to spend upwards of $500 million to get Obama re-elected. The battle which began in January when Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker took office and started working to fix the state’s budget crisis by reining in the collective bargaining powers of the state’s public employee unions was finally concluded Tuesday when the Wisconsin Supreme Court issued a ruling which gives Governor Walker a huge victory and unions across the nation a sound thrashing.
Wisconsin has for months taken center stage in the much larger battle over
union concessions and collective bargaining rights as states all across the country face budget shortfalls. Read the rest of this entry »

If I was in the process of ramping up to spend more than $500 million of money that I stole fair and square to reelect Barack Obama, I suppose I would be rather demanding. In fact, I’d probably feel just like Richard Trumka who, I’m sure, feels he bought this President, along with most of the Democrats in the House and Senate, so they had better by God support the unions who put them in office. The Obama administration is on the offensive again in their zeal to protect labor unions, showering them with corrupt deals and political favoritism. The National Labor Relations Board, an agency of the Obama administration, is expanding its authority well beyond that which is its legal charter by bringing lawsuits seeking to overturn constitutional amendments in at least two states.
The constitutional amendments, which guarantee secret ballots for union elections, were legally approved by voters in Arizona and South Dakota. Read the rest of this entry »

Republican Senator David Vitter of Louisiana is questioning how the United States has benefited from a $2-billion loan the United States made to a Brazilian oil company for its offshore drilling operations.
Senator Vitter is entirely right in questioning a loan which carries with it such utter hypocrisy.
How has that loan helped US companies, the senator asked in a March 17, 2011 letter to Fred Hochberg, president of the Export-Import Bank.
“I am sure you can understand the frustration Louisianans have with a $2 billion loan to produce energy offshore Brazil,” Vitter wrote to Hochberg – especially given the “ongoing de facto moratorium” on deep water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Obama administration has approved only three permits for drilling new deep water wells in the Gulf of Mexico since it lifted its moratorium on issuing permits last October– seven months after the BP rig explosion and oil spill.
“I would appreciate a full accounting for the return on investment the American taxpayer has received, and is anticipated to receive, on the $2 billion loan to this Brazilian petroleum company,” Vitter wrote to Hochberg. “I want to understand why permitting domestically is nearly stalled, and if there is at least a return on this investment over the last year and a half for supporting production offshore Brazil.”
When Vitter first inquired about the loan to Petrobras (the Brazilian national oil company) two years ago, the Export-Import Bank responded to Vitter’s staff by telephone, explaining that the US would benefit from the loan through the increased export of US drilling products and services.
The Export-Import Bank of the United States, the official export credit agency of the United States, helps finance the export of US goods and services to international markets.
Specifically, Vitter now wants to know:
-
The name of all US companies that have increased exports based on this loan.
-
The specific product exports that have increased based on this loan.
-
The return on investment for this loan during the next 5 and 10-year windows.
-
The name of all US and foreign investors, including institutional investors, that increased their share holdings in Petrobras in excess of $50 million within a 6 month period before and after the loan.
“Given that U.S. offshore oil and gas reserves are estimated at nearly triple the 40 billion barrels estimated offshore Brazil, a thorough response from you would be helpful in understanding why permitting domestically is nearly stalled, and if there is at least a return on investment for supporting production offshore Brazil,” Vitter wrote.
Obama was in Brazil last weekend. Monday, he arrived in Chile, From there he’ll stop in El Salvador. The White House says the South American trip is intended to seek out “job creating opportunities.”
Export-Import Bank President Hochberg is among the delegation accompanying Obama on his South American trip.

I have followed the ongoing battle of the labor unions vs. Governor Scott Walker and the people of Wisconsin closely. I have researched it quite thoroughly, even traveling to Madison Wisconsin with my son to observe the street protests, speak with the people and interview protesters. This fight – and the ongoing stories which surround it – aren’t going away anytime soon.
This battle will continue to spread to other states and other unions as courageous Republican governors elected in the most overwhelming mid term election mandate since 1938 Read the rest of this entry »

Democrats in Congress say they have grown frustrated with Obama because of his lack of leadership in their ongoing battle with Republicans over spending cuts, but with nothing in Obama’s career to suggest that he is one for political rough riding, it is odd for Democrats to express dismay that Obama isn’t leading the charge.
During the bloody 14-month fight over ObamaCare, Obama opted not to fully engage until the final three weeks. Since Obama declined to take the lead when it came to a multi-trillion-dollar law that will forever be associated with his name, Democrats should know that he isn’t jumping into the fight over funding the government for six months. An NPR executive was caught on camera lambasting the Tea Party as “seriously racist” and claiming that liberals might be, as a whole, more educated than conservatives. The comments from Ron Schiller, a senior executive at NPR and president of the NPR Foundation, were made during a meeting with two people posing as members of a fictitious Muslim organization. The two activists, who recorded the February meeting on hidden camera. Read the rest of this entry »
